It seems somebody left their SUV in the middle of Times Square with a timing device attached to a few propane tanks. The bomb squads also removed gasoline and explosive powders from the vehicle. According to the article at FoxNews.com, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said Sunday that the incident could be a possible terrorist attack. “It could be an act of terrorism,” Napolitano told “Fox News Sunday.” You think? Napolitano said Sunday that the bomb was “amateurish” and would not say whether it appeared to be the work of a domestic or foreign plot. Amateurish or not, a car bomb like that could have done alot of damage to Times Square. The fact that pedestrian and automobile traffic was halted to the area must have caused both psychological and financial disruption. Hats off to the NYPD and other security agencies for catching this before it could do any real damage.
As we are unfortunately seeing lately, many more attempts and successes are showing up in our streets, buses and subways. Bus 19 and its victims should be a lesson-learned that we are not immune to this type of global terror, whether it be domestic or foreign.
